Key Sectors

Bracebridge is more than just the heart of cottage country. The community has a diverse economic base that is anchored by the following sectors:

Approximately 25% of Bracebridge's population is employed in the broader construction sector. Location quotient analysis shows that Bracebridge businesses are supplying construction services beyond the community itself. This strong competitive advantage should continue to dominate as the entire Muskoka District grows.

Bracebridge has always been a tourism destination not only to the massive population that lives a mere two hours to the south, but also to international travellers as well. As a result, the community has a strong retail/foodservices sector.

Additionally, there is a healthy supply of festivals and events in the community. These serve not only to attract visitors to the region, but also contribute to the well-being and engagement of residents.

Due a perceived lack of accommodation beds, the Town of Bracebridge hired PKF to complete a Convention Hotel Feasibility Study in 2011 in the hopes of attracting a branded hotel with meeting capabilities. While this study did support the attraction of a 100 room hotel with 5,000 square feet of convention space, economies at the time indicated a financial gap between post development value and the cost of development combined with a standard annual rate of return.

As home to the district seat of government, provincial courthouse, as well as a strong entrepreneurial base, Bracebridge has an impressive variety of financial, legal and engineering professionals.

One of the knowledge based industry employment areas in which Bracebridge exhibits existing strengths is the engineering services sector. Additionally, the earth sciences and environmental sciences sector has found a logical home in the community.

The South Muskoka Memorial Hospital provides emergency health care services and inpatient care. Patient care is also supported through a number of outpatient programs. Urgent care for illnesses and injuries not requiring emergency services are provided by two walk in clinics.

The community is also served by a vast number of allied and alternative health professionals.

Employers have access to post-secondary training opportunities at three institutions in town and another two within a one hour drive. This equates to a highly skilled labour market. Discover how Bracebridge's progressive approach to business ensures that the community is Open for Business!
