Storybook Trail and Observation Deck

Located at 15 King Street, within the lush parkland you will discover eight storybook panels adjacent to Woodchester. This short trail is easy to navigate and finishes at the octagonal observation deck inspired by Woodchester itself. The deck provides a vantage point overlooking the Muskoka River and surrounded by nature.

Penny and the Trail of Wonder

Winding through the parkland adjacent to Woodchester is the Storybook Trail. Currently the trail features the story “Penny and the Trail of Wonders” by author Courtney Murrell and illustrated by Kristin Wright, two local Bracebridge artists who created the story with their hometown in mind. The enchanted trail weaves through the trees, lined with storyboards that take you on the adventure of Penny and her dog Ralph.

Join in the adventure, pause to take in the scenery and sounds of the forest, and take a moment to reflect just as Penny does. The story panels also offer some interactive suggestions for young naturalists looking to further explore the forest around them. The Town gratefully acknowledges that the installation of the storybook trail was funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.

Observation Deck

As you make your way through the Storybook Trail, you will come to the newest addition to the property, the observation deck. Positioned to overlook the Muskoka River, the newly constructed observation deck creates a peaceful space for visitors to enjoy a new viewpoint and perspective of Downtown Bracebridge, and further showcases the old-growth forest. The octagonal shape draws inspiration from Woodchester itself and provides plenty of space to view the abundance of surrounding nature. The Town gratefully acknowledges that construction of the observation deck was funded in part by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, and the Rotary Club of Bracebridge.
