Reporting to the Recreation Programmer or designate, the Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising high quality camp programming that is stimulating and enjoyable for all camp participants. This position also supervises Camp Counsellors and Volunteers to ensure the maintenance of a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and the successful delivery of care, supervision and activities to camp participants.
Position Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and oversee high quality, safe and age-appropriate programming for camp participants.
- Supervise Camp Counsellors and Volunteers, assist with scheduling and evaluating performance.
- Facilitate training sessions for Camp Counsellors and Volunteers.
- Complete administrative tasks including weekly newsletters, attendance, program schedules, and various reports.
- Demonstrate appropriate behavioral management techniques to address and correct participant behavior, while communicating with parents/guardians to report issues, respond to inquiries, and resolve or escalate complaints, as needed.
- Respond to all incidents, accidents and emergency situations and complete required report forms.
- Serve as a positive role model and leader within your community.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
- Experience working with children and youth.
- Previous experience in a recreation operation is considered an asset.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development, HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Aging certification or willingness to obtain, an asset.
- Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHMIS 2015.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, leadership, administrative, customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, research, and time management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
- A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license in good standing with a current acceptable Driver’s Abstract and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
