Extreme cold and winter weather forecasted for Bracebridge
BRACEBRIDGE, ON (January 20, 2025) – Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Bracebridge that could bring up to 100 cm of snow through to Wednesday morning. Public Works crews are actively monitoring the weather and will continue to perform winter maintenance operations on all roads and sidewalks.

- Limit outings to essential travel only. If you need to travel, please drive according to the weather and road conditions, and take the necessary precautions to ensure for a safe journey;
- Clear snow away from blue 9-1-1 civic address signs to ensure emergency services can find your home in the event of an emergency;
- Ensure outside vents for all fuel-burning appliances are clear of snow and ice. Portable generators should only be used outdoors and carefully located to ensure that exhaust fumes do not enter the home;
- Download and register for the Voyent Alert app to receive location-based notifications to your home phone, mobile device or email, and have your 72-hour emergency kit prepared to support you and your family for at least three days.
Bracebridge is also experiencing extreme cold temperatures with wind chill values exceeding minus 20. Extreme cold conditions may persist through to Wednesday and put everyone at risk.
- Watch for cold related symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
- Limit time outdoors.
- Cover up and dress in layers. The outer layer should be wind resistant. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
- Check on vulnerable members of the community.
- If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
