Heat warning in effect for Simcoe Muskoka

BRACEBRIDGE, ON (June 17, 2024) – The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has issued a prolonged Heat Warning for all of Simcoe and Muskoka beginning today. Dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected through most of the week with daytime highs expected to reach 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, with humidex values of 40 to 45 degrees.

Stay safe during extreme heat

  • Dress for the weather. Wear loose-fitted, light-coloured clothing, hats, and sunglasses, and apply sunscreen often;
  • Limit your time outdoors whenever possible. If you must be outdoors, stay in the shade;
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water;
  • If you don’t have air conditioning, stay hydrated and take cold showers to stay cool;
  • Take a break from the heat by visiting shopping centres or Town facilities during operational hours;
  • Visit one of our many beaches and other public water access spots;
  • Close any curtains or blinds to limit the sun coming in your home; and
  • Check in on vulnerable members of the community.

Extreme heat can cause you to feel unwell or make existing health conditions worse. If you are caring for someone who has a high body temperature and is either unconscious, confused, or has stopped sweating, call 9-1-1 immediately.
