More Winter Weather on the Way
BRACEBRIDGE, ON (January 13, 2025) – More winter weather has hit the Bracebridge area. Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Bracebridge. Snow squalls are expected to develop off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay beginning this afternoon. Local snowfall amounts of 30 to 50 cm are likely, with higher amounts possible if snow squalls become stationary over one area.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Residents are advised to be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for taillights ahead and be prepared to stop. Please continue to monitor weather alerts and forecasts.
Winter road and sidewalk maintenance
Public Works crews are actively monitoring the weather and will continue to perform regular winter maintenance operations on all roads and sidewalks. As a reminder, vehicles are not permitted to be parked on the road between 2 and 6 a.m. in the winter months.
Winter weather safety
· If you need to travel, please drive according to the weather and road conditions, and take the necessary precautions to ensure for a safe journey;
· Clear snow away from blue 9-1-1 civic address signs to ensure emergency services can find your home in the event of an emergency;
· Ensure outside vents for all fuel-burning appliances are clear of snow and ice. Portable generators should only be used outdoors and carefully located to ensure that exhaust fumes do not enter the home;
· Be sure to have your 72-hour emergency kit prepared to support you and your family for at least three days.
· Be a good neighbour. Check in on seniors and vulnerable members of the community to ensure they are warm and safe.
