Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Programs and Services or designate, the Recreation Coordinator is responsible for supervising Branch staff, the development and operation of recreation and sport programs and events within the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre and other defined areas for the Town of Bracebridge. Additionally, this position is responsible for attracting new facility rentals, tradeshows, and large events, developing program and safety standards, implementing new and existing programs and procedures, coordinating special projects, and together with the Manager, preparing and monitoring annual budgets
Position Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise, coach, mentor, and motivate staff. Together with the Manager, is accountable for recruitment and selection, planning work schedules, assigning and monitoring work, performance management, providing training and development opportunities, providing for a healthy and safe workplace, and interpreting and applying employment legislation, human resources policies and the collective agreement.
- Assist in the coordination of Branch objectives in collaboration with the Manager and support implementation of the Town’s strategic plan and budgeting and business plan activities, serving as a champion of the Town’s mission and values.
- Assist in the development of the Branch operating and capital budgets, including forecasting staffing, equipment, materials and supplies, monitors, and allocate expenditures, and in coordination with the Manager, identify grant opportunities.
- Attend Committees, Council, and other meetings as necessary, assist in the preparation and presentation of reports and recommendations, formal presentations, and respond to questions and inquiries as required.
- Manage and coordinate recreation and sport programs including, but not limited to, health and wellness, fitness, sport, camps, community gatherings and large tradeshows and events.
- Oversee daily operations at the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre and act as the main point of contact for inquiries from members of the public, user groups and staff.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma from an accredited university or college in Recreation, or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive, related experience in recreation programming required, including at least two (2) years recent and relevant supervisory experience, or related experience in progressively responsible roles, in a unionized environment, preferably in a municipal setting.
- Experience planning and coordinating events and developing opportunities with event promoters.
- Experience with developing and monitoring budgets.
- Experience developing and implementing procedures, policies, standards, or by-laws, an asset.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C or willingness to become certified.
- HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development, HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Aging, Quest 2 - HIGH FIVE program evaluation certification or willingness to obtain, an asset.
- Good working knowledge of relevant Federal and Provincial legislation including, but not limited to the Employment Standards Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Fire Code, Occupiers Liability Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
- Strong written and verbal communication, administrative, customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, research and report writing, and time and project management skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint. Experience using recreation management software and financial programs, an asset.
- Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
- A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing with a current acceptable Driver’s Abstract and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
