Surveyors to review tree health in urban areas of Bracebridge beginning September 30

BRACEBRIDGE, ON (September 26, 2024) – Beginning Monday, September 30, representatives from Davey Tree Service will be surveying trees in the urban area of Bracebridge on behalf of the Town as part of the Urban Tree Management Plan. Surveyors will remain on public property, wear reflective vests and identification at all times, and will be using a laser rangefinder to measure tree height, growth and health. The tree survey should take approximately six weeks to complete.

The Downtown Urban Tree Management Plan was established in 2018 and is a coordinated and proactive plan to better manage the town’s urban forest, utilizing arboricultural best practices. The Management Plan provides information for adequate maintenance procedures to ensure the perpetuation and enhancement of town trees as well as ensuring public safety in the downtown core and greenspaces.

Tree surveying takes place every five years to document tree health, update tree inventory and identify any potential issues, health improvements and hazard removal. The Town is committed to environmental stewardship and plants about 30 trees on public property each year to replace fallen, hazardous or dead trees, with most of the planting taking place in the fall.
