Town of Bracebridge seeks illustrator for Woodchester Storybook Trail update
BRACEBRIDGE, ON (January 29, 2025) – The Town of Bracebridge is inviting professional and emerging illustrators, as well as visual or graphic artists, to bring their creative skills to illustrate the newest addition to the Woodchester Storybook Trail. This unique legacy project celebrates Bracebridge’s 150-year anniversary and aims to create a vibrant, engaging experience for guests of all ages visiting the trail at 15 King Street.
The selected artist will bring to life a newly chosen children’s story, written by a local author and recently selected through a Request for Proposals process. The illustrations will highlight Bracebridge’s natural landscape and landmarks and will be featured on the trail’s eight panels, including a title page and seven story panels. The imagery should reflect the story’s themes and complement the beauty of the natural surroundings.
The Request for Proposals (RFP) is open until February 24, at 12 p.m. Interested applicants will be provided with a confidential copy of the children’s story and are required to submit a complete illustration for one specified page. Submissions should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to create colorful, imaginative, and family-friendly illustrations that complement the story’s theme. Compensation is available for the selected artist.
About the Storybook Trail
The Woodchester Storybook Trail, introduced in November 2022, is a 500-metre walking trail featuring story panels integrated into an urban forest setting. The trail debuted with the story Penny and the Trail of Wonders, written by Courtney Murrell and illustrated by Kristin Wright, two talented local artists.
The Storybook Trail enhances public spaces by integrating art and storytelling into a natural setting, offering residents and visitors a unique cultural and recreational experience. As part of the Downtown Master Plan, the trail reflects Bracebridge’s commitment to community engagement, public art, and creating vibrant destinations for everyone to enjoy.
