Town seeking partners to help expand public art downtown
BRACEBRIDGE, ON (October 18, 2024) – The Town of Bracebridge is looking for partners in Downtown Bracebridge to help expand and enhance their catalogue of public art. Building owners in the Downtown Bracebridge business improvement area are invited to complete an online survey to offer their building to host an outdoor mural and express their interest in being a project partner.
Public art not only beautifies the community but also attracts visitors, fosters a sense of pride, adds meaning and uniqueness to spaces, and supports local artists. The Town supports the placement of art throughout Bracebridge to enhance public and private spaces, make art more accessible, and to develop a sense of place, community pride and identity.
Building owners interested in hosting an outdoor mural can complete the online survey by Tuesday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. at engagebracebridge.ca/publicart.
Pilot Mural Project
In 2023, a large-scale mural was placed on the north facing exterior wall of the Norwood Theatre. Created by DRIFT Mural Co., the piece celebrates the spirit of Muskoka, and was the first piece to be installed as part of a Downtown Bracebridge public art pilot project. The addition of that mural transformed a blank brick wall into a vibrant space that both compliments and enhances the backdrop of Memorial Park. The success of that mural was the driver behind this partnership project to expand public art downtown.
