Reporting to the Manager of Recreation Programs and Services or designate, the Wellness and Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for supervising Branch staff, the development, implementation, and operation of aquatic, fitness and recreation programs, activities and procedures in the Sportsplex and other facilities, as directed, for the Town of Bracebridge. In addition, the Wellness and Aquatics Coordinator will develop safety standards, coordinate High Five training and accreditation, coordinate special events, assess service level requirements, and work collaboratively across department functions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises, coaches, mentors, and motivates staff. Together with the Manager of Recreation Programs and Services, is accountable for recruitment and selection, planning work schedules, assigning and monitoring work, performance management, providing training and development opportunities, providing for a healthy and safe workplace, and interpreting and applying employment legislation, human resources policies and the collective agreement.
  • Administer and monitor the actions required to ensure HIGH FIVE accreditation is maintained by all relevant staff.
  • Manage and coordinate recreation programs and rentals including, but not limited to climbing and low ropes, health and wellness, fitness, aquatics, and events.
  • Prepare and oversee applicable operating budgets and identify potential grant opportunities in coordination with the Manager of Recreation Programs and Services.
  • Oversee the requisition and purchase of necessary operating and capital equipment and supplies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma from an accredited university or college in Recreation, or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive, related experience in recreation programming required, including at least two (2) years recent and relevant supervisory experience, or related experience in progressively responsible roles, in a unionized environment, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Current Certifications in National Lifeguard, Red Cross Instructors, Lifesaving Society Instructor and Bronze Examiner, Pool Operators Level 1, and Standard First Aid with CPR C, HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development, HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Aging, HIGH FIVE Quest 2, and HIGH FIVE Quest 1, or willingness to obtain an asset.
  • Experience with preparation, oversight, and monitoring of operating budgets.
  • Experience developing and implementing procedures, policies, and standards, an asset.
  • Good working knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Occupiers Liability Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
  • Excellent leadership skills and demonstrated ability to supervise staff effectively and foster teamwork and a positive staff culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, department officials and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, administrative, customer service, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, research and report writing, and time management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint. Experience using databases, social media platforms and web technology, and recreation management software is considered as asset.
  • Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
  • A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license in good standing with a current acceptable Driver’s Abstract and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
