Fire prevention and public education efforts are known as the first line of defense. Led by our Fire Prevention Officer and supported by our Fire Inspections and Compliance Officer, staff deliver public education, fire code enforcement and fire investigations.

Bracebridge Fire Department
The Bracebridge Fire Department is made up of full time and paid on call firefighters. Volunteer Firefighters play a unique and pivotal role in Bracebridge, acting as champions for community safety, education, and prevention. The dedicated team of Firefighters work hard to serve the community and keep it safe.
Divisions
Fire Prevention & Public Education
Firefighters train one night a week to maintain their skills. Training is delivered by in house trainers as well as specialists from outside the department. Topics include:
- Fire pumper operations
- Auto extrication
- Gas detection
- Hazardous materials training
- Firefighter survival
- Search and rescue
New recruits undergo 4 months of training prior to being allowed to respond to calls.
All firefighters take additional training as courses become available.
The department responds to many different calls for help. Types of responses we do include:
- Fire suppression
- Auto collisions
- Gas leaks/carbon monoxide emergencies
- Shore based water/ice rescue
- Marine firefighting/rescue on Lake Muskoka
- Assistance to the OPP and Muskoka Paramedic Services
- Hazardous material responses
Our dedicated firefighters are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to whatever needs our residents and visitors have.
Fire Station 1 houses all full time and administration staff.
The Administration Coordinator completes all necessary data entry, fire marshal reports, manages budgeting, assists the public and keeps the fire hall office running smoothly.
The Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Inspection and Compliance Officer and Training Officer also work from this station.
Apparatus
Purchased new in 2019, built by Carl Thibault fire trucks, this truck responds to virtually all calls for help. It carries 800 gallons of water and can pump 1,250 gallons per minute. The cab has seating for six firefighters and storage for many pieces of specialized gear. Pumper 3 responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2012, built by Dependable, this truck is used as a rapid response front line unit. It carries 1000 gallons of water and can pump 1500 gallons per minute. It seats five firefighters and carries a large amount of equipment. Pumper 4 responds from Station 2.
Purchased new in 2008, built by Metalfab, this truck is used to transport water to rural areas without hydrants. It carries 1,500 gallons of water with a 420 gallon per minute pump. It has seating for two firefighters and can carry a limited amount of equipment. Tanker 6 responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2006, built by Metalfab, this truck is used to transport water to rural areas without hydrants. It carries 1,500 gallons of water with a 420 gallon per minute pump. It has seating for two firefighters and can carry a limited amount of equipment. Tanker 7 responds from Station 2.
Purchased new in 2024, built by Metalfab, this truck is used to transport water to highways and rural areas without hydrants. The largest tanker in the fleet, it carries 2,500 gallons of water with a 1050 gallon per minute pump. Tanker 8 responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2000, this 25 foot flat bottom aluminum boat responds on Lake Muskoka from a local marina. It is mainly used for water rescue, ambulance assists and marine firefighting in those areas of Lake Muskoka only accessible by boat.
Purchased new in 2011 and built by Carl Thibault, it acts as a backup unit to Pumper 3 for all in town responses. It carries 500 gallons of water and can pump 1,500 gallons per minute. It has a 75 foot ladder equipped with a nozzle. The cab has seating for 6 firefighters and storage for many pieces of specialized gear. Ladder 11 responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2007. This 4X4 Ford pick-up is used by our Fire Prevention & Public Education division. It is also used to access areas that are not easily accessed by the larger fire trucks. This unit responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2013 this 4X4 Chevrolet pick-up is used by our Fire Prevention & Public Education division. It is also used to access areas that are not easily accessed by the larger fire trucks.. This unit responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2015, built by Metalfab, this truck acts as the department utility vehicle. It carries a wide assortment of specialized equipment. It also serves as a command unit for larger calls and a mobile lighting unit. Rescue 15 responds from Station 1.
Purchased new in 2020, this GMC Silverado is equipped with wildland firefighting equipment and can transport firefighters into areas that are not easily accessed by larger trucks. This truck also responds to C.O. calls, and is the main vehicle for Fire Prevention and Public Education. This unit responds from Station 1.
