Fire prevention and public education efforts are known as the first line of defense. Led by our Fire Prevention Officer and supported by our Fire Inspections and Compliance Officer, staff deliver public education, fire code enforcement and fire investigations.

Fire Prevention & Public Education

Firefighters train one night a week to maintain their skills. Training is delivered by in house trainers as well as specialists from outside the department. Topics include:
- Fire pumper operations
- Auto extrication
- Gas detection
- Hazardous materials training
- Firefighter survival
- Search and rescue
New recruits undergo 4 months of training prior to being allowed to respond to calls.
All firefighters take additional training as courses become available.

The department responds to many different calls for help. Types of responses we do include:
- Fire suppression
- Auto collisions
- Gas leaks/carbon monoxide emergencies
- Shore based water/ice rescue
- Marine firefighting/rescue on Lake Muskoka
- Assistance to the OPP and Muskoka Paramedic Services
- Hazardous material responses
Our dedicated firefighters are ready to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to whatever needs our residents and visitors have.
Fire Station 1 houses all full time and administration staff.
The Administration Coordinator completes all necessary data entry, fire marshal reports, manages budgeting, assists the public and keeps the fire hall office running smoothly.
The Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, Fire Prevention Officer, Fire Inspection and Compliance Officer and Training Officer also work from this station.
