Town of Bracebridge Council

The Town of Bracebridge is one of six lower-tier municipalities within the District Municipality of MuskokaTown Council is comprised of nine members including:

  • Mayor;
  • Five Ward Councillors; and
  • Three District Councillors.

The current term of Council began on November 16, 2022 and will end on November 15, 2026.

In partnership with the District of Muskoka, residents can use an online mapping application to help identify their wards using their address.

The purpose and intent of the Council Code of Conduct is to establish standards of conduct for Members of Council and Council Committees with respect to their respective roles and responsibilities.

To ensure that the Council Code of Conduct is followed, the Town appointed Suzanne Craig as an independent Integrity Commissioner who is responsible for:

  • Providing information to Council and Committee members as to their obligations under the Code;
  • Conducting investigations and provide reports regarding alleged breaches of the Code; and
  • Providing an annual report to Council on the activities of the Integrity Commissioner.

Any individual who has reasonable grounds to believe that a Member of Council has breached a provision of the Council Code of Conduct, may file a complaint with the Town’s Integrity Commissioner:

The Municipal Act, 2001, Section 223.3: Outlines municipalities' abilities to appoint an Integrity Commissioner, their powers and duties and how inquiries work.

Policy No. TOB-2016-03 Council Code of Conduct: Rules/ clarifications for council, board, committee and commission members' conduct and actions.

In carrying out their duties as Elected and Appointed Officials, all members of Council and members of Committees and Local Boards, are required to disclose a pecuniary interest with respect to any matter under consideration by Council, Committee or the Local Board where there is a reasonable likelihood or expectation of financial gain or loss by the member or a related person as identified in the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act. The onus and obligation to declare a pecuniary interest rests with each member, the time for this declaration is allotted at every meeting.

In accordance with s.5.1 of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, at a meeting at which a member discloses an interest under section 5, or as soon as possible afterwards, the member shall file a written statement of the interest and its general nature with the clerk of the municipality or the secretary of the committee or local board, as the case may be.

The Municipal Conflict of Interest Act requires the Municipality to establish and maintain a registry detailing these declarations of pecuniary interest and provide access to this registry to all interested parties.

In accordance with s.6.1 of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, every municipality and local board shall establish and maintain a registry in which shall be kept,

  1. A copy of each statement filed under s.5.1, and
  2. A copy of each declaration recorded under section 6.

The registry shall be available to the public for inspection in the manner and during the time that the municipality or local board, as the case may be, may determine.
